So Microsoft services are back on line they say, but it has been noted that Downdirector<\/a> still has reports of failures for all major services except for SharePoint. Which is it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what has this outage today cost businesses worldwide? I dread to think. Costs of this outage will no doubt be reflected in raised costs to the consumer. Why have so many businesses suffered from the outage? It’s so simple to answer. Businesses in general like to be seen to be using ‘cutting edge technology’ but fail to identify the risks of employing this. All these qualifications, certifications, and brainwashing, distract the decision makers into relying upon ‘un-qualified’ recommendations. It’s like saying lets change the shape of the wheel because a round one can roll away, so we will make it square. Translated it equals lets ditch our in-house applications because the USB sticks take up too much space in the cupboard, so we will rely on 3rd party overseas organisations to provide questionable services over a non-reliable internet connection because we can. Who signed that one off? A simple qualified risk assessment would, or maybe should, reveal the shortcomings of the plan and raise suitable objections to the deployment. As with Brexit we should revisit our business models and go back to using some good british common sense. ITIL, no, real good old fashioned common sense, hell yeah!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time after time I see companies with techies and certifications up to their arm pits, great at their jobs, but sadly lacking quality management directive. They will deliver with style, but can only deliver as well as the plan will permit. Don’t get me going!
